Biography

George Adam Smith was born in Calcutta, but in his early teens, his family returned to their homeland, Scotland. After attending several universities and doing some traveling, Smith became an ordained minister in the Free Church of Scotland and later switched to the United Free Church of Scotland. Professor, Principal, Vice Chancellor, Fellow, and even"Sir" (following being knighted) were titles held by Smith in his lifetime. He was also a Chaplain to kings and an author of several books. He wrote two volumes on the book of Isaiah, as well as geographical works on the land of Israel. Many of Smith's sermons were also published. Smith lived from 1856 to 1942.
