Biography

Bishop Brooke Foss (B.F.) Westcott was born in 1825. His hometown was Birmingham, England. He earned a BA degree from Trinity College. He was a skilled writer and won several awards for his essays. As he studied philosophy and religion, he also delivered many lectures and published several books. The Gospel of Life, published in 1892, is one of his more well-known works. He also wrote commentaries on John's gospel, Hebrews, and John's epistles. He had a passion for studying the tenets of other religions, particularly Eastern religions. He also was active in social justice issues and church reform. Foss's wife died in May 1901. Foss died two months later, in July, at the age of 76.
